Natural Mothering
"The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers and cities; but to know someone here and there who thinks and feels with us, and though distant, is close to us in spirit - this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden." ...Johann von Goethe
Updates & News
10-11-05: I have been wanting to redesign Natural Mothering for a couple of years now and I've finally settled on a look that I like. The process has been very time consuming as I am trying to make sure the site is as standards compliant as possible. Since I am finished converting all the old pages to the new style I have gone ahead and uploaded them. I am, however, still tweaking the code. I have checked every link (I think) and updated or deleted all non-functioning URLs so everything should be working now - if not, let me know! I have added a bunch of new links as well as some new content to many of the pages so have a look around. I am planning more new content as time allows so keep checking back!
12-01-03: You may have noticed that I didn't update the site in November. I was having trouble with my internet connection, but it has finally been resolved. I am going to be taking a break from regular updates for a while, that's why I have discontinued the Poll of the Month and the Book of the Month. You can still find lots of great books to read on my Recommended Reading Page, if you're interested.
10-01-03: Well, fall is definitely in the air here in Minnesota! With the changing weather comes more frequent sniffles that's why i picked Aviva Jill Romm's brand new 3rd Edition of Naturally Healthy Babies and Children. It's the book I reach for first whenever one of my kids gets sick. Please take a moment to answer this months poll and thanks for stopping by!
09-01-03: Summer is almost over and it's back to school time so this months poll and book of the month deal with schooling options. I'm getting around to updating the background but I'm still working in small chunks of time so I don't make my arm any worse.
08-01-03: Wow, it's August already...where does the time go? I have changed my background and color scheme again, after all I couldn't very well leave all that Fourth of July stuff up could I? I created the background of the suns on the left and right sides of the page, feel free to grab it if you like it! This month's Poll is short & sweet, take a moment to vote. I just realized that I never got around to updating the book of the month for July - oops! I do have a new book for you this month though so check it out. I still have a lot of fine tuning that I want to do to this site but it's slow going working in 20 minute chunks a few times a day. Well, I guess that's about all for this month. Thanks for stopping by!
07-01-03: Summer is officially here! I hope everyone is enjoying it. I changed my background colors this month to something a little more festive for the Fourth of July. This month's poll is to help me get a general idea of where my visitors are from. I've also come up with a new "Book of the Month" for you, check it out. I have registered my site with Safe Surf because I believe in what they are doing. There is so much more I want to get done to these pages but I'm suffering from a repetitive strain injury in my right shoulder & arm from too much time on the computer so I am going to have to work on the updates in small chunks here & there.
06-02-03: Well, here it is a new month already. This months "Poll of the Month" is about how much parenting our partners do. The new "Book of the Month" explores the gender differences in parenting and why it's good that moms & dads are different, check it out! I'm still working on those eBay listings....
05-04-03: Hello and Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow Mother's out there! My updates this month revolve around Mother's Day. Check out the "Poll of the Month" and sound off on what you're ideal Mother's Day includes, then have a look at the new "Book of the Month" and find out why we SAHM's are so underappreciated! I also have some new eBay listings up so take a moment to check them out.
04-04-03: Well truth be told it didn't even dawn on me that it was a new month - LOL! I've updated the "Poll of the Month" and the "Book of the Month," so go ahead and take a minute to check those out. I'm working on some new eBay listings. I hope to have them up sometime next week but life is hectic right now so I guess we'll see. I'm also working on making a log of previous poll results, haven't quite figured out all the logistics yet though. Hopefully I'll be able to include it in next month's updates - keep your fingers crossed!
03-05-03: I just finished updating the "Poll of the Month," I think I covered most of the variations but I guess I could have missed one. If I left out your birth experience drop me a line and let me know! I also updated the "Book of the Month," and added a link on the main page to an on-line petition opposing a unilateral first-strike war on Iraq - Oppose War With Iraq.
02-01-03: I've updated the "Poll of the Month" and the "Book of the Month," check them out.
01-13-03: Well, I finally updated the Book of the Month! Better late than never I guess.... I also adjusted the position of the "Join Above: Adopt Below" WebRing placeholder. Looks like all the WebRings that I belong to have been adopted - Hurray!
01-06-03: Updated the Poll of the Month. Should be interesting...take a minute to vote!
12-02-02: I added a Haiku poem I wrote a couple years ago to my Why Breastfeed? page and changed my "Militant Breastfeeding Cult" graphic. I removed the ADBUSTERS "Don't Buy Anything Day" banner, updated my "Poll of the Month," "Book of the Month" and my eBay auctions.
11-17-02: I am very proud to announce that I have been accepted as a member of "The Phenomenal Women of The Web." You can view my profile here.
11-12-02: Did you know that you can "adopt" abandoned webrings? Take a look at my Entrance & Rings page. You should notice a blue & white divider about 2/3 of the way down the SSNB stack. That's the "Join Above - Adopt Below" webring/placeholder. All the webrings listed below it have been abandoned by their Ringmasters and are in need of adoption. If you are interested in taking over any of them just click on the "Ring Hub" link and look for the "Adopt this Ring" link. I have adopted the "Breastfeeding Ring" webring.
10-25-02: Life with three children (8, 4.5 & 1) is chaotic to say the least! Between homeschooling the older two, providing the intense parenting the little one needs and my volunteer work, my poor site has been severely neglected. Now that it's almost winter again I hope to be able to spend more time keeping this site updated. I redesigned the site again (I just can't leave things one way for long). I hope you like the new look. We finally caved and upgraded to Microsoft Internet Exploiter Explorer 5.5 so the new design relies a lot more on CSS as well as SSI (server side includes), which I'm using for the first time. If you're running an older browser it's not going to look as good but it's still functional down to Navigator 4.75. I think the new navigation system is better now (not to mention much easier for me to update - yea!). I have painstakingly checked all the links to make sure they are current. I don't think I missed any but if you find one that's outdated please let me know. I (finally) updated the Book of the Month and added a few titles to the Nighttime Parenting Book list. I decided to add Poll of the Month too so please take a minute to vote! New navigation links to "Recommend This Site" and "Add Page to Favorites" have been added to the left hand side of the page. Also, new quotes have been added - now every page has a quote!
06-06-02: Okay, it's been too long, I know. Fixed some pictures that weren't working for some reason. Added 20 Things to do Instead of Yelling or Spanking to my Discipline page (written by a couple of my friends and me several years ago and recently updated by me). Book of the Month updated.
02-04-02: Book of the Month updated.
01-25-02: The redesigned site is up! This is the first version of Natural Mothering that uses CSS (cascading style sheets). These pages are best viewed at 1024x768 with a current browser such as Opera 6+, Internet Explorer 5+ or Netscape Navigator 6+. That said, they will still work in older browsers (I still use Netscape Navigator 4.75 most of the time) you just won't see some of the fancier stuff. In an attempt to make the pages load faster I've cut back on the graphics and shortened the pages by moving the sub-topics onto new pages. That and getting rid of the frames gave me quite a headache when it came time to figure out how to set up the new navigation system. The main menu is now at the top of each page. Subtopics are listed on the left hand side of each page along with "Main, Home & Next" links at the bottom of each sub-page. Sounds more confusing than it really is...I hope! ;) If you have any problems let me know, I'm sure there's still kinks to be worked out. Enjoy!
12-31-01: Well, our ISP was having some technical problems and they somehow managed to revert my site to a previous version loosing several recent additions to my web sites. Rather upsetting as it makes me look bad, but I'm sure you all understand. At any rate, I'm trying to get things working properly again. I am in the middle of a major site redesign so it may be a couple weeks before everything is completely functional again, hang in there and keep checking back.
Peace On Earth, Good Will Towards Men, Women & Children. Happy New Year!
11-11-01: It's A Girl! Thank you to everyone who voted in our Baby Name Poll at the BabyCenter.
10-30-01: The Natural Family Planning page is done (finally, Check it out!) I've updated the Cloth Diapering pages.
03-06-01: I started my own WebRing for mother created personal web sites addressing Natural Mothering topics (including pregnancy & childbirth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, holistic health, and other natural living issues). Have a site, want to join? Go here!
