Reading - ontheweb
Dividing Line

A few years ago, the Carleton College bookstore published
a version of a student project called "Faculty Favorites."
It reported the results of an unscientific survey about the
reading preferences of Carleton teachers. It convinced me
to read The River Runs Through It before the beautiful
book was transformed into a beautiful movie.

It also suggested to me that the people I teach with might be interested in sharing reading experiences. So I wrote something about reading The River Runs Through It and asked my colleagues to write something about what they were reading. A few brave souls wrote and lots of people said, "Great idea."

Gradually the circle of readers grew and writing about
what I read became part of reading for me. The reflection
and the retelling are great fun. Whether you read the
paper or the electronic version, please tell us something
about what you're reading. You can send me e-mail (Ken@SideTrack.org),
which I don't have to re-type or you can send me paper mail at
925 Ivanhoe Drive, Northfield, MN 55057.

The title of a recent printed version of Reading finally gets down to saying that it is "a recurring compendium of comments and random thoughts produced by Ken Wedding and his reading buddies as a guide to good and bad literary experiences." (Getting to that description is sometimes an essential part of the experience of reading Reading.

In addition, you have to be aware that the publication often
appears under an alias. For reasons not fully understood by
anyone, the title has, at one time or another, been Redding,
Red Wing, Reading, NOT!, The End of Reading?
, Escapism,
and MissReading.) Under any name, it's a place for you to
share your reading experiences, and those of us who read
Reading await your writing.

Ken Wedding.
