A Quick Note from Maine

Susan Schnurr sent a short and intriguing e-mail about a book she had just read. It turns out that this book was featured in bookstores all over the UK when we were there in August.

"I have just read Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. It is such a nice book--a wish-washy word to describe the feeling the book left.

"It is a serene mood-setting book that conveys the author's love of Botswana and makes the reader fall in love with it too. It is essentially a series of short stories that, put together, turns into a novel with a light plot. The Wall Street Journal calls it "entrancing" which is the perfect word. I loved the book despite not liking short stories or most novels. I can't recommend it too highly."

I'm intrigued. A highly recommended book that is "nice." I may have to find out what that means for myself.
