Depression

Dividing Line

If terrorists, corporate crime, the re-emerging deficit, Wall Street, recession, the occupants of the White House, the paralysis of Congress, and war mongering aren't enough to put you in a blue funk, I've got a book for you. Stupid White Men is Michael Moore's latest book.

I got this book for Christmas last with the inscribed wish that I raise a ruckus.

Instead it's made me want to crawl into a hole and go to sleep.

What could be more depressing than hearing that my first impressions of George II were not only dead on accurate but charitable.

Where was that guy for the last two years of his Air Force reserve duty? And why did no journalist find out? What affirmative action program got the C-student into Yale? or into Harvard Business?

And why is it that the people who didn't share in the economic boom of the '90s are the victims of the aggravated corporate robbery of the '00s?

Why might my retired mother lose her supplemental Medicare insurance to pay for the mansions, Mercedes, and maids of the former CEO of Qwest?

Moore goes on at one point, "So if you live in a country where forty-four million people can't read--and perhaps close to another two hundred million can read but usually don't--well, friends, you and I are living in one very scary place. A nation that not only churns out illiterate students but goes out of its way to remain ignorant and stupid is a nation that should not be running the world...

"It comes as no surprise to foreigners that Americans, who love to revel in their stupidity, would 'elect' a president who rarely reads anything...and thinks that Africa is a nation..."

Arrrghhh! Where's my pillow?

I know, Moore's a demagogue. Why believe anything he writes?
Why not?
Is there any reason to believe anything George II or his handlers Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Ashcroft say?
Have they ever told us anything straight?
They usually go around denying what they're obviously doing.
(Calling the Democratic Senators traitors? Not us, we only said they don't care about the security of America.
Lowering taxes for the rich? Not us, we're lowering taxes for everyone who might someday have an estate huge enough to be embarrassing.
War mongering to win an election? We would never politicize an issue of national security like the Democrats do.)

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Wake me if we survive.

Write Tell a little bit of the world what you think.
