Games

Now for this weeks page. Those of you who are observant will notice his page and the last one were made on the same day. Look again at the last page if you can’t figure out why. Mainly, the part right below the big "Oops".

Now I get on to the main point of the page. I have been playing two vastly different games this and last week. That is the main reason the last page was written today. The first game is called The Legend of Dragoon, and the other one is Mario Tennis.

The Legend of Dragoon (hereafter L.O.D.) is an RPG or Role Playing Game. It is a Saving The World type game, and your main character is a fighter named Dart. The game starts out with you waking up from a night of rest and hearing a large commotion. When you get to the main road a group of soldiers ride by. When you stop two soldiers you find out they are members of an opposing army that your nation had an uneasy truce with. You want to know why the truce was broken now, when a large dragon appears. You are too weak to beat it so you run. A strange woman warrior saves you from getting eaten or stomped, and says something about an attacked town near here. Your home town is near here, so you go to see if there are any people left. It turns out that Shana, your childhood friend has been taken to Hellana Prison. This continues for some time with things you have to do. I am now on the third of four CDs that the game spans.

The other game I’m playing is Mario Tennis. It is, of course, a tennis game, staring Mario and a large number of his friends and enemies. It doesn’t have a plot, just various tennis games. There are, of course, doubles and singles matches, but you can choose how long you want them to go on for. The choices you can make are: 1 set of 2 games, 3 sets of 2 games, 5 sets of 2 games, 1 set of 6 games, 3 sets of 6 games, or 5 sets of 6 games.

In case you don’t know, 1 game is one person serving until someone gets more than 40 points. This may seem like a lot, but in tennis the scoring goes like this: 0 (love), 15, 30, 40. So actually 40 points are like 3 points. If both teams score 40, it is called deuce. The next person to score gets an "advantage" instead of any more points.

Mario Tennis has some different things though. Each person you can chose has a strong point, like strength or speed. You can power up shots by tapping the button twice, but you can only do three different shots, a top spin, a slice, and a smash shot. The top spin is a ball with lots of top spin and a high trajectory. The slice is a strong slice and a low trajectory. The smash shot is the strongest shot available. You can also try to charge up to hit the ball even harder. The problem with this is that you can’t move well when you’re charging up, so you have to know where the ball is going and get there quick.

The most different thing would have to be the Bowser stage. In this, you are on a tilting field, and there are power ups you can grab. Some power ups make you move faster, others will let you hit the ball harder, and all the others let you attack the other team.

Well, that’s about it for this week. I hope you liked reading this as much or more as I liked writing it.
