Live Simply in the City, by Jonathan Allan and Lynne Cantwell.
You can live simply in the city. True, some things are a bit harder for a city dweller to do when trying to voluntarily simplify their life. But, more things are easier! Our contention is that you can live a simple life in the city without chopping wood, butchering your own lunch, and driving everywhere. If you want to chop your own fuel and live the rural lifestyle, then find another book to read! But if your idea of Simple includes walking or taking public transit to the grocery store and library, then this book is for you. You can Live Simply in the City!
Each chapter covers a general topic that someone practicing Volutnary Simplicity will have to deal with. We tell the stories of several Simplifiers living in the city. In every chapter is a list of books and web sites to explore. Most of the chapters also have a list of practical things you can try to get you started on the VS path and headed in the right direction. We tried to make this book a text you could use as a jumping-off point into the Voluntary Simplicity well of thought. We think you will enjoy the swim!
The book mentions two larger pieces you might want look into that are on the Ardea Press web site. Since we have broken connections with Ardea Press, here they are instead:Duane Elgin wrote a nifty article called The Garden of Simplicity.
R. J. Wilder also kindly gave us permission to use his Cleaning Out Story.
