The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman, Angelo Fiorino at 5;30pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 in the meeting room of St. Andrew's Rectory, in Murphysboro, Illinois.
Members present were: Bill Harper, Angelo Fiorino, Dave Barger, Patty Williams, Judy Wisniewski, Steve Schumacher and Ray Nowacki.
Members absent were: Pat Krawczyk, Cindy Holt and Sharon Fisher.
Dave Barger made the motion to approve the January minutes and the motion was seconded by Steve Schumacher. Aye - All; Nay - None. Motion carried.
Copies of the approved minutes will be made available to parisioners in the back of church and on the parish web site.
Discussion was made around the issue of snow removal and contracts that have been submitted. A decision was made to contact Russ Wingerter to inform him that he no longer has the snow removal contract. Keifer's has submitted the only bid for snow removal.
Bill Harper made a motion to have Fr. Gary and the trustees, Patty Williams and Dave Barger, review the Keifer contract proposal for snow removal and if judged to be in order; award the contract to Keifer's. Judy Wisniewski seconded.
Aye - All; Nay - None. Motion carried.
There was a general discussion of the distinction between the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the work of the Minsterial Alliance. Angelo will obtain copies of the new guidelines for giving from the Ministerial Alliance and present them to council members.
Caring Fund dispursements were approved unanimously without a motion.
The Trustees have been asked to review a donation from the Smysor Foundation that came to the church. There is some concern about the source and intended destination of these funds.
A motion to accept the profit and loss statement was made by Dave Barger and seconded by Steve Schumacher. Aye - All; Nay - None.
Dave Barger presented proposed guidelines and a mission statement for the development of a scholarship fund to offer financial support for continuing education to active parishioners who can demonstrate a proven benefit to St. Andrew Parish. The council is asked to review the proposals and make suggestions and corrections.
No funding source has been identified. Possible sources of funding are envelopes and/or a direct appeal to the parish through a bulletin/newsletter insert. Bill Harper has volunteered to speak on this issue to the parish, at masses, on a yet to be determined weekend.
A general discussion about the RCIA dinner was held and possible solutions to the problem of funding this dinner were made. Solutions included a direct appeal by Fr. Gary at masses, asking individual groups or persons in the parish to "financially sponsor" a candidate, or to hold the dinner at St. Andrew instead of having the group go to the Shrine dinner.
Judy Wisniewski spoke about the Cemetery Committee and indicated that a new contract had been signed with Sweetgum for maintenace. Through the efforts of Angelo Fiorino and Mayor Ron Williams, the city has annexed part of the cemetery and has provided a water source for the cemetery.
The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 6:50pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 21, 2006, at 5:30pm.
These minutes were prepared by Bill Harper in the absence of Council Secretary, Pat Krawczyk.
