Rosary Instructions

The Rosary is not always prayed the same way. The technique varies by country and custom, but the Decade portion is always the same.

When the Rosary is recited as a group of two or more, one person is the leader. The leader announces each mystery and introduces each prayer, with all others joining in where the asterisk indicates. The Fatima prayer and Hail, Holy Queen are said out loud by all in their entirety.

Start by:

  1. reciting the Sign of the Cross while holding the Crucifix make the sign of the cross.
  2. Recite the Apostles Creed
  3. Recite the Our Father while holding the first bead.
  4. Recite the Hail Mary once for each of the next three beads. Mentally dedicate them to the Divine virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity.
  5. Recite the Glory Be.

Next follows a set of Mysteries. Based upon the day and the season you meditate on a particular set of Mysteries. (Pray five Decades)

For each Decade you :

  1. Announce the Mystery
  2. Recite One Our Father for the single bead.
  3. One Hail Mary for each of the next ten beads.
  4. One Glory Be - before the next large bead.
  5. Follow each Decade with a Fatima Prayer/O My Jesus.

You should meditate on each mystery while reciting the prayers.

After completion of the five decades, you are back at the beginning of the circle. You may continue with another decade or

  1. recite Hail, Holy Queen
  2. recite The Sign of the Cross while making the Sign of the cross.

Rosary Prayers

Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead

*I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

*Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

*Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

The Fatima Prayer
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell.
Lead all souls to Heaven especially those in most need of Thy mercy.

Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us. And after this our exile, show unto us the blessed Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us, Holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
